MADISONVILLE-It was a blur of high
heels, food and fun at Hiwassee College on Saturday, as Branches of
Monroe County had their fundraiser for their soon-to-open domestic
violence shelter, The Refuge.
The event was packed with women,
children, and fashionably accessorized men, wearing high heels,
scarves, and skirts--or a combination of the three. The purpose of
the fundraiser was to literally have participants "Walk a Mile
in Her Shoes" while raising awareness and money to help women,
children and even their animals suffering from domestic violence.
The event kicked off around 9:45 a.m. with a
motorcycle ride for charity. Many motorcyclists gathered for the
cause. Before the ride, everyone gathered together in a circle and
had a prayer for the safety of the drivers, and then they were off,
signaling the beginning of the event with the growl of engines.
