MADISONVILLE-A Madisonville man was
arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly stole a car, then led
officers on a chase that covered half the town.
Madisonville Patrolman Craig Summey
said it was around 10:45 a.m. when he went to the Walmart to check on
a report of a stolen car being in the parking lot. Summey said he saw
the car in the parking lot and tried to stop it, but the car took
The driver, later identified as
Franklin Lloyd Harris, 27, McConkey Street, drove across Highway 411
and into the Sloan Center parking lot.
Summey said he followed him onto Oak
Street, crossing College Street, onto Monroe Street where Harris hit
a mailbox, almost hit another vehicle, then turned onto Oklahoma
Street, then onto Edwards Street, Bradley Street, through the field
behind Wendy's restaurant, through the Avon Marathon parking lot,
onto Highway 68 and then into a filed off that highway.
Summey said Harris hit a barb wire
fence and came to rest on an embankment in the field. He then took
off running, but was found not long afterwards with the use of the
Sheriff's K-9 unit.
Summey said the stolen car suffered a
shattered front windshield.
Harris was charged with felony
vandalism of a vehicle, felony vandalism of a fence post, resisting
arrest, theft over $1,000, illegal possession of a weapon, evading
arrest, reckless endangerment, felony vandalism of a mailbox and
