The Advocate & Democrat said
goodbye to longtime Publisher Tommy Wilson Friday.
Wilson retired after a distinguished
47-year career in journalism. Twenty three of those years were spent
with Jones Media Inc., the owner of The Advocate & Democrat.
"Monroe County is a very special
place," Wilson said. "I am going to greatly miss all the friends
my wife Jill and I made there. I will also miss all the great people
I worked with over the years."
Current editor of The Advocate & Democrat, Tommy Millsaps, will handle the local day-to-day operations
of the newspaper while the overall business will be managed by
Michael Miller, publisher of The Daily Post-Athenian in Athens.
"Tommy Wilson has left big shoes to
fill," Millsaps said. "But we have an outstanding staff committed
to giving Monroe County the best newspaper possible. Mr. Wilson has
taught us well and we plan to make him very proud of us."
Millsaps began working as a reporter at
The Advocate & Democrat in 2000. He was named editor in 2010.
Millsaps is a Sweetwater High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College
Millsaps and his wife, Marie, have an
11-year-old daughter, Lauren.
He occasionally plays tennis (very
poorly) and is a self-admitted weather geek.
