MADISONVILLE-It's been a little
more than a year since the Madisonville Police Department started using the "roving" speed camera
and it's been a success in more ways than one.
Gregg Breeden said the goal of the camera was always to increase safety on the Madisonville
streets and not be a money making machine for the city.

wrecks in our community and hopefully eliminate fatalities, or as close as we could come to
accomplishing such a thing."
While there are no official
numbers, since the speed camera came into use, there has only been one fatality and that was on
Hiwassee Road in a situation where the camera wouldn't have made much of a difference.
"We can tell just from being in the middle of it," Breeden said, "that
the severity of accidents in this area have went down. We still have them occasionally, but when
people do the speed limit, what could have been major crashes are sometimes nothing more than
