MADISONVILLE-If you have flood
insurance, your rates could be going up come Oct. 1 due to the 2012
Biggert-Waters Act passed by the U.S. Congress.
During Tuesday's August County
Commission meeting, Monroe County Solid Waste Director Mike Atkins
explained the changes.
He stressed the changes have come from
the federal, not the state and local leaders.
"There's nothing we can do about it," Atkins said.
Atkins said he expects county leaders
will get several calls from citizens upset by the rate increases. He
said county officials can send the calls to him, but again stressed
local leaders' hands are tied.
"There's absolutely nothing I can do
about it," Atkins said.
