SWEETWATER-A longtime Sweetwater
business and community leader has passed away.
Jackson Tipton Jones died Tuesday.
Jones was a World War II veteran, who
was wounded three times while serving in the South Pacific and a
leader in the family mill business. Jones is remembered for his quiet
leadership and service and is known to have helped the citizens of
Sweetwater in many ways.
Joe Sherlin, former superintendent of
the Sweetwater City School System and a community leader himself,
recalled his good friend fondly.
"He was always involved with anything
that would make the Sweetwater community better," Sherlin said.
Sherlin said that while Jones had been
wounded in World War II, he never mentioned his heroism.
"He was really a great citizen of
Sweetwater and the county," Sherlin said. "And a good friend."
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 30 at First Presbyterian Church in Sweetwater where the
memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, followed by additional
