SWEETWATER-The Sweetwater Planning
Commission Monday voted to recommend the City Commission pass an
ordinance that would make it easier for downtown businesses to rent
their upstairs for apartments.
The ordinance if approved by the City
Commission will mean that tenants may use public parking except
during business hours Monday through Saturday. The tenants would also
have to obtain a parking permit from the city.
But gone would be the requirement
stating upstairs tenants have to own a parking place. Planning and
Code Enforcement Officer Scott Wilson said the proposed new rules are
based on regulations Knoxville developers have used to revitalize
Wilson said there would not be a huge
number of people living downtown and there is enough parking to
support those who do. He said he does believe having people live
downtown would help the area be more vibrant.
