TELLICO PLAINS-Standing outside of the
Subway and yelling at people didn't work out too well for a Tellico
Plains man Monday.

Hall said he went to the restaurant on Highway 68 after a call about
a possible drunk man yelling at people as they drove by.
Hall said he found Gene Otis Lanford
III near the restaurant and asked if he'd been drinking and yelling
at people. Lanford said he had drunk a six-pack, but hadn't done
Hall said Lanford smelled strongly of
alcohol, was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. He told
Lanford he was being arrested for public intoxication and Lanford
allegedly became very belligerent and refused to cooperate.
Lanford allegedly resisted being put
into handcuffs and when they were finally locked into place, Lanford
reportedly kicked the inside of the door of Hall's patrol car and
continued to yell profanities.
Hall told Lanford to stop it or he'd
have to pepper spray him. Lanford said to go ahead and spray him, but
Hall managed to get Lanford onto the jail without any further reported
Lanford is charged with public
intoxication and resisting arrest.
