SWEETWATER-Sweetwater's National Night
Out keeps growing and growing.
Another huge crowd turned out at the
city's recreation complex Tuesday for the Sweetwater Police
Department's annual August crime prevention and awareness event.
The crowd may have been boosted by a
comfortable August evening with the temperature not much above
80-degrees, which is a far cry from some of the near 100-degree
National Night Out events in the past.
Sweetwater Police Chief Eddie Byrum
said its community partnerships that makes the gathering so
"The community is only as good as the
people that make up the community," Bryum said.
He thanked all the city departments,
Police, Fire, Street, Recreation and Planning/Codes, along with the
many community members and businesses involved in making Sweeewater's
National Night Out an award-wining event.
Tuesday's National Night Out was the
11th year the city has put on a National Night Out.
Police Commissioner Bill Stockton and
Officers Daniel Johnson and Suzanne Ward head up the SPD team that
works year around to organize one of the biggest community events in
Each National Night Out has a focus for
crime prevention during the coming year, called "Project 365."
This year's project is school safety,
Byrum and Sweetwater Mayor Doyle Lowe announced. For the first time
ever, the city school system will have an officer in each school.
School safety has been a major focus for the City of Sweetwater and
the city school system this year and will be highlighted even more in
the coming year.
