Dwaine "Benjy" Thomas has
announced his candidacy for Monroe County General Sessions judge for the 2014 Election. Thomas
will run in the Republican Primary to be held May 6, 2014 seeking to advance to the Aug. 7, 2014
honored to announce my candidacy for Monroe County General Sessions Judge for the 2014 Primary and
General Election," Thomas said. "I have been humbled by the support of family, friends,
clients and colleagues in the past few weeks as I have contemplated this decision. I look forward
to the opportunity to work with law enforcement, state agents, court clerks, district attorneys,
public defenders, and the private bar in a new capacity. I also look forward to serving the people
of Monroe County in the civil and criminal divisions of General Sessions Court, Probate Court, and
Juvenile Court. I appreciate the encouragement I have received and ask for your support in the
Thomas presently is employed as an
assistant public defender for the 10th Judicial District, is an adjunct professor of criminal
justice at Hiwassee College, and serves as municipal judge for the Town of Tellico Plains. He was
in private practice in Madisonville from 2004 until November 2012. Thomas grew up in the Ball Play
Community, and presently lives in the City of Sweetwater.
