Sweetwater native, Walter T. (Spunk) Bowman announced this week his plans to seek election to the Monroe
County Commission as a representative from the 1st District.
A graduate of Sweetwater High School,
Hiwassee College and Tennessee Wesleyan College, where he received a
B.S in accounting, Bowman brings a long list of business and personal
achievements as he announces to seek a seat on the Monroe County
Previously, much of his business
experience has been in banking, real estate development and
accounting. Bowman also served in the Tennessee National
Guard. He was a charter member of the Monroe County Chamber of
Commerce and during his tenure on the Monroe County Commission, where
he was elected to serve as a representative from the 1st District, he
was the first president of the Monroe County Maternity Center, serving in his capacity as a member of the Monroe County Commission.
Bowman said he brings exceptional business and family principles with
his candidacy for the Monroe County Commission. He has a track
record as a civic, business and family-oriented leader.
"Monroe County is at a important
cross road, we need to actively seek industry and brings jobs
to our county. Economic growth helps everyone. We need to
be good servants of the trust and finances of the public. We
need to spend wisely and think of ways to cut costs along the way.
Our schools are the backbone for growth and they must be academically
strong. We need to maintain and accept nothing less than
exceptional service for the taxpayer," Bowman said.
Until the general election in August,
2014, Bowman said he will be listening and discussing the issues
pressing the taxpayers of not only the 1st District, but also all of
Bowman is married to the former Becky
Lingerfelt of Sweetwater. They have two adult daughters and five
grandchildren currently residing in Atlanta, Ga., and Iowa City,
Bowman is a member of the Sweetwater
Valley Lodge 280, Odd Fellows, he holds an active Life and Health
Insurance License. He and Becky are members of Fairview Baptist
Tabernacle in Sweetwater.
"Our county government needs to
always lead when it comes to being cost effective, and should be
committed to nothing but exceptional service and care for the
citizens of this great county," Bowman stated.
