SWEETWATER-Motorists traveling Old
Highway 68 will soon have a new bridge to cross.
Work is well under way on the bridge at
Fork Creek Crossing on Old Highway 68 near Sweetwater.
"The project is going well," said
Road Superintendent Steve Teague.
An inspection in the fall of 2012
showed the bridge had a sufficiency rating of 31.5 on a 100-point
scale. Teague said the bridge was approximately 100 years old and
Highway, Inc. Contractors out of
Cookeville, who received the bid to complete the project, began work
in late March to remove and replace the bridge. The crew poured the
deck recently, said Teague, and are awaiting the guard rails and
the bridge approach slabs.
"Everything is coming along," said
Teague. "The flooding we've had lately has slowed down work a few
