A Vonore manufacturing plant that
was closed for the weekend caught fire Sunday, but no one was injured.
The fire is believed to have began around 7 a.m. Sunday morning at
Protech Metal Finishing in the Niles Ferry Industrial Park and was extinguished by several fire
departments about three hours later.
While there was no one
inside the building to be injured, there was smoke damage to the building, but monetary damage
isn't yet known. Protech puts chemical finishing on products for the aerospace industry, but
authorities don't believe any dangerous materials escaped during the fire.
Vonore, Madisonville, Greenback and Tri Community fire departments all
responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
