MADISONVILLE-There's no question that
school safety is a top concern, but when it comes to school resource
officers (SRO), who should foot the bill?
Madisonville City currently supplies an
SRO for the Primary, Intermediate and Middle schools, but he is
stretched thin and a second SRO would decrease his workload and
provide better service.
"Having been in education for 40
years," said Alderman Augusta Davis, "I know there is a need for
SRO officers. The children's safety is the top thing."
The current SRO is supplied by the
Madisonville Police Department and the city and Monroe County split
his cost 50-50. The county has said they would be willing to do the
same thing for a second SRO.
But Madisonville Mayor Glenn Moser said
he wonders why Madisonville should pay for an SRO in a county school
