SWEETWATER-Sweetwater officials say
lots of people heard the four tornado sirens tested Wednesday
afternoon, but a few reported the sound of silence.
Three siren clusters donated by TVA
this year along with a refurbished siren the city had used years ago
were tested at 1 p.m. City, police and fire officials were stationed
throughout the town to listen for the sirens and the city also got
feedback from residents located throughout the town as to whether or
not they heard the sirens go off.
"Seventy-five percent inside the city
limits heard them," Mayor Doyle Lowe said Thursday.
But not everyone did and some said they
only heard the siren because they were listening for them. Several of
the schools reported their staff and students could not hear the
sirens when they were tested unless they were outside.
