The Monroe County, Loudon County,
Etowah and Athens Area Chambers of Commerce are sponsoring the first
East Tennessee Great Region Summit to be held at Hiwassee College
this Thursday, May 23.
"This is a golden opportunity having
the four chambers work together on economic development for the
region," Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
President Tommy Wilson said.
The event will be held in the Hiwassee
College Auditorium and will begin at 12 p.m. and last until 2 p.m.
The summit's topic of discussion will focus on the success of the
Interstate 75 corridor.
Gov. Bill Haslam, along with other
elected officials, has been invited to visit with the three Chambers
of Commerces as they discuss major initiatives for the future and new
opportunities for synergy, collaboration, and coordination. The
summit will also provide a forum for the economic development
directors in each of the participating counties to share their most
recent success stories.

corridor is the supply of qualified and knowledgeable employees to

determine the individuals who are best suited to advance the
initiatives drawn from the sharing of ideas. A system will be
developed and implemented in order to chart the progress after the
summit and a follow-up meeting will be convened a year later to
discuss the progress.
The price for invited guests is $15 per
person and includes lunch. All proceeds from the event will be
equally divided between the Monroe County, Loudon County, and Athens
