The Kerbela Shrine Annual Paper Sale in
Monroe County has started.
The Monroe County Shrine Club, which
is a small county club made up of Shriners who live in Monroe County,
will hold its annual paper sale May 12-19. This is marked by the
Shriners offering the sale of the Shriner's Newspapers at local
businesses and at intersections throughout the week.
The papers feature pictures and
articles about local children from the 16 counties Kerbela Shriners
cover who receive treatment at one of the three regional Shriners
Hospitals for Children.
Although there are
currently 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children in the U.S, Canada and
Mexico with a current budget of $800 million. Kerbela Shriners
directly support and transport patients and their families to one of
the hospitals. Lexington, Ky., which treats orthopedic and
neuromuscular conditions; Cincinnati, Ohio, which treats burns,
disfiguring skin conditions, cleft lip and palate; and Greenville,
S.C., which treats orthopedic and neuromuscular conditions.
Shriners of Knoxville supports more than 1,500 children
currently receiving care at a Shriners Hospital in 16 counties of
East Tennessee without regard for the financial ability of the
The Shriners Hospitals are now a large
system of specialized treatment facilities, focusing on research to
lead the world in new procedures and techniques which minimize the
trauma of treatment, speed up the healing process, and provide more
out-patient treatment without lengthy hospital stays.
