Three-year-old Brooklyn Shaw, the
daughter of Hailey and Cody Roberts of Tellico Plains, was diagnosed
with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer in April 2012 and endured months of
heavy chemotherapy and radiation treatments at East Tennessee
Children's Hospital and stem cell harvest and transplant at
Vanderbilt Hospital. After completing treatments earlier this
year, the family breathed a sigh of relief. On April 22, however,
Shaw's cancer relapsed.
Faced with this devastating news, her
family decided to try to make create positive memories and make
Brooklyn's dream of going to Disney World a reality. On April 26,
community members, with the help of Team Lexi, teamed up to to start
a campaign to raise money for the Shaw family. With an initial goal
of $5,000, volunteers held road blocks, fundraisers and took up
donations for this little red-headed girl.
At a check reveal party on Wednesday,
May 8, the Disney princesses were on hand to present a $33,649.44
check to the family for their trip and financial needs.
Donations have continued to pour in
from all across the United States and Monroe County, including
thousands of dollars from area schools where children brought in
donations. The total raised now sits at more than $35,000.
If you would like to make a donation to
the Shaw family, mail your donation to Casey Edwards, 672 Reliance
