VONORE-In an era when many companies
are struggling, JTEKT is celebrating 25 years in Vonore and the
company's future looks brighter than ever.
About 2,000 people showed up Saturday
despite the cool, damp weather to celebrate the company's 25th
anniversary. Plant tours were given and employees had the opportunity
to win great prizes, including free airline tickets to any place in
the world. Two big outdoor tents were set up with lots of games for
young and old alike and great live music.
When asked what has made the company so
successful, Terry Knight, human resource manager for the plant, said
the answer is easy.
"The secret to our success throughout
all the years is our employees," Knight said. "There are many
employees with 15 plus years of service and several more with 20 plus
years of service. At the end of the day and looking back 25
years, our employees and their families are truly the secret to our
JTEKT started in Monroe County in 1988
manufacturing hydraulic steering gears. JTEKT has grown
steadily over the years. Currently with full-time, contractors,
and contingency workers JTEKT employs around 1,000 people which
makes it the largest employer in Monroe County.
