The Tellico Bears baseball team played host to a District 3-A matchup versus the Harriman Blue Devils Tuesday afternoon. The Bears came into Tuesday looking to get their first win of the season. Instead, Harriman got its sixth win of the season, 11-2.
Taking the mound for the Bears would be senior Dillan McNabb. Harriman went down quietly in the top of the first with only a base hit and a stolen base. Dakota Stone and McNabb got the Bears off to a hot start with two singles in the bottom of the first. Stone advanced to third and McNabb advanced to second on a wild pitch. Stone then would get caught trying to steal home and McNabb got caught in a pickle and tagged out at second base for the third out in the bottom of the first.
Harriman led the top of the second off with a walk and a single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Another single scored the runner from second base and brought the runner to third from first. Two balks by McNabb would score two more runs and make it 3-0. Harriman got another run on a wild pitch by McNabb and two more runs on a two-run home run. Harriman exploded for six runs in the second inning and led 6-0 at the end of two.
The score remained 6-0 until the top of the fifth. Harriman added two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth on a solo homerun to center field and two more runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead to 11-0. Tellico got two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cancel the shutout.
