County maintenance crews have taken over the operation of the Monroe County Airport after
longtime operator Larry Hamilton's contract came to and end and was not renewed. The crew
and an electrical contractor were busy last week sprucing up the airport.

MADISONVILLE-It's a time of
change for the Monroe County Airport.
Larry Hamilton had served
as the fixed-base operator for the small airport between Madisonville an Sweetwater for two
decades until April 1. But earlier this year, the County Commission voted not to renew the contract
it had with Hamilton.
Hamilton is officially out and took the
fuel and equipment he owned from the airport. County Mayor Tim Yates said there will be a called
meeting of the County Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday, as he as requested around $60,000 in funds to
fill the fuel tanks.
Yates said planes can come and go at the
airport. But Hamilton points out the pilots cannot purchase fuel right now and there is no mechanic
