It's time to think purple and step up
the fight against cancer.
The annual Relay for Life fundraiser to
defeat cancer is just weeks away. The mayors from Madisonville
and Sweetwater recently joined together to proclaim "Paint Monroe
County Purple" for the months of March and April in honor of Relay
for Life. This year Relay will be held at Hiwassee College on April
26 from 6 p.m. until April 27 at 6 a.m.
The mayors are encouraging every home
and business in Monroe County to purchase and display a purple ribbon
or multiple ribbons to show our support of those fighting cancer and
those who have lost their battle with cancer.
Madisonville Petals and
Gifts, is providing bows at cost so the majority of the $5 will
go for Relay. These bows are a very obvious and colorful way to
show support of Relay. While individuals can not purchase these
ribbons from Petals and Gifts, you can get these bows at the
following locations for a donation of $5: Volunteer Federal Highway
68 in Sweetwater, the Dinner Bell, Sweetwater Insurance Agency, any
Relay team volunteer or call Linda Jenkins, 423-337-6897, or
Debbie Belcher, 423-261-5323.
Relay for Life leaders hope to have
the ribbons available at other locations in the county so watch for
an announcement telling where. Please show your love and support for
those suffering with cancer by displaying the purple ribbons during
the months of March and April, event organizers said. By doing this,
you will also raise dollars to help fund research that organizers pray will
one day eradicate cancer.
