TELLICO PLAINS-The welcome sign to the historic town square in Tellico Plains will soon get a facelift.

An anonymous person approached Mayor Patrick Hawkins asking to donate a new sign for the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Highway 165. The sign will be a wagon, representing the Wagon Train that used to travel through the town each year.

"The wagon would sit on a mound," said Hawkins. "It would be no cost to the town. They've only asked the town to help install it."

A "Historic Town Square" sign would go inside the wagon and along the panels of the wagon, there would be signs that detail what is located in Town Square.

"It would be a nice sign," said Hawkins. "It would definitely be different than what you'd see in other areas."
