SEQUOYAH - "Hey didn't you know? Three is my favorite number!" shouted Chiefs head coach Daniel Curtis after Sequoyah's 66-60 win over the number three team in the state, McMinn Central. "We just stepped it up. After they took the lead in the third, and had outscored us in the first five minutes of the second half I just called a timeout and said guys this is it. I challenged them and they answered," said Curtis.

Andrew Millsaps forged his way, time after time, into the teeth of the Central defense. The Chargers kept fouling and Sequoyah hit their shots late. Millsaps led all scorers with 29. The Chiefs held the Chargers to just 20 first half points which really set Central back. The white and blue came out in a hurry to score 18 points midway through the third to take a 42-40 lead. That's when Daniel Curtis said there was a turning point. "Seth Schaffer, off that rebound, just turned up court made the layup and the foul. That really turned the game, that shot right there,"пїЅ said Curtis

McMinn Central scored 40 second half points, but it wasn't enough to get out of their first half hole. Josh Scudder led the Chargers with 17 points, while Tim Webb added 16. Max Miller netted 11. For the Chiefs, Taylor Hawkins hit some big shots and finished with 14 points. Shon Stevens scored 11, and Braden Strickland had 7 points. Schaffer ended his game with 6 points. The Chiefs iced the game late with free throws to take down the number three team i n the state 66-60. The Chiefs and Chargers are now tied at the top of 5-AA, at 5-1 in district play.
