SHUTDOWN DEFENSE! Lady Bears grab 53-35 win

TELLICO PLAINS - Friday night was another district matchup for the Lady Bears as they hosted the Rockwood Lady Tigers. The Lady Bears would use their smothering defense to tame the Lady Tigers.They held Rockwood to only 35 points in the contest.


The Lady Bears would have two players in double figures on the night Bailey Hunt and Jasmine Harris. Offensive rebounding by Hunt, Tori McMinn and McKinley Dalton would be another key to the Lady Bears win. Free throw shooting would also be a key in the victory for the Lady Bears. Tellico shot 14-21 (67%) from the stripe. The Lady Bears handled the Lady Tigers pretty easily by a final score of 53-35.


In the first quarter the Lady Bears would be led by Dalton and Hunt. The Lady Bears would take a 14-9 lead into the second quarter. In the second stanza the Lady Bears would stretch the lead to 12 midway through the quarter. To end the quarter Rockwood would go on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 28-21 at the half.


Rockwood would continue their run at the start of the third quarter. Rockwood would start another 5-0 run to knot the game up at 28-28. Brayden Garren, Chelsie Davenport, Hunt and McMinn would all chip in to help the Lady Bears regain the lead 36-31 heading into the last quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Bears would dominate on both ends of the court. The Lady Bears would hold the Lady Tigers to only 4 fourth quarter points.


Brittany Kirkland and Harris would hit two three-pointers in the quarter and McMinn, Harris and Rachel Sutton would shoot 7-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears would dominate just about the whole contest and get anothВ­er key district win 53-35 over Rockwood.


Point leaders:

Bailey Hunt, 11, Jasmine Harris, 10 and Tori McMinn would throw in eight points and three offensive rebounds. With the victory the Lady Bears go to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in disВ­trict 3A.
