Devon Collier and the Bears won a close one in OT against Midway

The Tellico Bears took the floor Tuesday night in a district
matchup vs the Midway Green Waves. The Bears were looking to get their 10th win of the season. It
wasnпїЅt easy, but the Bears prevail and get the win by defeating the Green Waves in a overпїЅtime
thriller 56-55.
The Bears and Green Waves would light
up the scoreboard in the first quarter in a fast paced, back and forth first quarпїЅter. Dakota
Rinehart, Dakota Stone and Robert Vandervort would all hit 3-pointers in the first quarter. Devin
Collier would also have a strong first quarter with 10 of his 21 points in the first quarter. The
Bears would end the first quarter with a 22- 16 advantage. Midway would get back in it by playing
some tough defense. They would only allow the Bears four second quarter points.
The Bears and Green Waves would be tied at the half 26-26. In the
third quarter the Bears would take the biggest lead of the game by both teams 37-28 on the hot
hands of Vandervort, Rinehart and Tyler Peeler. Midway would cut the lead to 3 at the end of the
3rd 41-38.
The fourth quarter would be back and
forth throughout. Rinehart would give the Bears a three point lead late in the fourth. Midway would
hit back-to-back threes to give them a 48-45 lead with just 50 seconds left in regulation. Collier
would come up big for the Bears as he converted a three point play to tie the game at 48-48.
Midway had 8.2 seconds to come up with a game winning shot, but came up just short to send the
game into overtime.
Midway would
score first in the overпїЅtime period with a three pointer to take a 51-48. Collier and Ryan Bookout
would come up with some big baskets in overпїЅtime for the Bears. With less than 20 secпїЅonds left in
Overtime Ryan Bookout would hit a huge jumper to give the Bears a 56-55 lead.
The Bears would make a stop on MidwayпїЅs next possession. Midway
would have to foul on the Bears next possesпїЅsion. Peeler would miss the front end of a one and one
so Midway would grab the rebound and call timeout with 4.0 seconds left. Midway would get one more
chance at a game winning shot and again come up just short. The Bears squeak one out and get the
win 56-55.
