Smoke floated over Highway 411 early
Monday as a barn suffered more than $30,000 in damage. Monroe
County Sheriff's Deputy Derrick Graves said the barn caught fire
sometime around 1 a.m. and was all but destroyed. The owner of the
barn, Jackie Holcomb, said there were 250 bales of hay in the barn,
worth around $7,500, and the barn itself had a value of $30,000. Holcomb told Graves the barn had power running to it but nothing had
been left on. The Vonore Fire Department and Hopewell and
Tri-Community volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze.
