BENTON - Brandon Clark and the Wildcats were hoping to steal a win on the road against 5-AA foe Polk County. The red and blue Wildcats had other ideas. Clark led Sweetwater with 14 points. Tyler Watson also finished in double figures with 10.
Sweetwater found themselves down 12-7 at the end of the first quarter, and even though it was a slim lead, Polk County held on for a 51-44 win. Seth Battle scored eight points and Terrell Johnson netted six. Matt Spencer and Tyler Albright ended the night with three a piece.
Polk County took a 20-14 lead into the half. Derrick Weber led all scorers with 18 points and Cody Groomes had 13 points for the Wildcats. Sweetwater clawed back to make the game 35-28 at the start of the fourth. The last quarter ended with both teams netting 16 points in the final eight minutes. The game really hinged on the first few minutes.
A tough road atmosphere, combined with a Polk Couty team that rarely loses at home, was just too much for Sweetwater. Clark and his fellow Wildcats could never get any closer and fell 51-44.
