SEQUOYAH - The Chiefs sent Meigs County home with a loss in the
Tiger's last district game inside the Chop House. The Tigers will have a new district home next
season, and the Chiefs wanted to send them out in style. An early offensive minded game turned itno
a defensive contest, and the Chiefs held on for a 71-59 win.
Chiefs head coach Daniel Curtis
was pleased with his team's performance. "We're 3-1 in the district now, and we just beat a tough
team. Levi Woods is hard to stop, but I'll gladly give him 32 points a night if we're able to get
the win," said Curtis
A close 18-14 first quarter was nothing compared to the second when
both offenses exploded. The scoreboard held a 39-34 advantage in favor of the Chiefs at the half.
Woods led all scorers with 32 points, while Andrew Millsaps netted 23 for Sequoyah. Woods was the
focal point of defensive strategy for the Chiefs. Sequoyah used a combination of zone defense
and tough man to man play to limit Woods ability.
The next highest point total for the Tigers
was shared by Kasey Skidmore and Bryson Baker. Each player had 7 points. Sequoyah's plan was to let
Woods do what he did best, but limit his passing lanes and the Tigers opportunity for second chance
points. The Chiefs executed their plan and continued to hold a 10 point lead into the fourth, and
ultimately won 71-59.
Taylor Hawkins had 14 points for the Chiefs, and Seth Schaffer scored
12. Brett King played great defense on Woods, and threw in 11 points. Shon Stevens ended the night
with six, and Braden Strickland finished with five points. For the Tigers, Woods, Skidmore and
Baker were the majority of the offense. Seth Shearman had four points, while Zach Powers, Tristan
Spradling and Deandre Clark all ended their nights with three.
