SEQUOYAH -The electricity was out for some time inside the Chop House when Sequoyah hosted William Blount, but that didn't stop the Lady Chiefs from lighting up the scoreboard. Savana Atchley, Hunter Simpson, and Chancey Welshan all scored in double figures to lead the Lady Chiefs to a 67-28 victory over the Lady Govenors.
Despite the outage that postponed the game for at least half an hour, Sequoyah could still see a 53-38 loss to William Blount, glaring at them from the start of this season. The Lady Chiefs made sure these visitors would remember their trip to the Chop House.
A slow first quarter ended with an 11-6 advantage for the Lady Chiefs.
Sequoyah warmed up in the second quarter as the defense tightend up and took a 29-12 lead into a dark halftime period. Due to a transformer issue, the second half shoot around was held with emergency lights on.
The teams has some time to shoot around with the lights on, after the issue was resolved. I'm not sure the extra light and time could have helped William Blount.
These two teams seemed completely different from the start of the year.
Atchley lead all scorers with 17 points and was 6-11 from the field. Simpson and Welshan had 15 points each. Welshan was an impressive 10-14 from the charity stripe.
As a team, Sequoyah hit 25-32 free throws to put the game out of reach late.
Willam Blount only scored more than 6 points once in the game, and that was with 10 in the fourth. Coach Eddie Gambrelle's defensive philosophy seems to be kicking in.
Emily Ingram hoverd close to double digits, and finished with 8 points. Danille Slack had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Suzie Guard and Josee Weese picked up rebounds as well. Jessica White had 4 points while Kassidi Freeman netted 2 points and 3 blocks
