SWEETWATER-The Sweetwater Merchants and
Property Owners Association (SMPOA) had a very successful 2012 and
looks for an even better 2013.
SMPOA was established to promote
Sweetwater and its businesses. A key component of that effort has
been the annual National Muscadine Festival held each September. In
its second year in 2012, the event drew a large crowd to town and it
is believed the festival had a huge impact on local businesses.
"We feel like we have that
established and it is something people look forward to every year," SMPOA President Bryan Burchfield said.
But as successful as the festival has
been, it is not the only project SMPOA works on throughout the year.
SMPOA has the main goal of connecting local businesses and the
community together and that will be enhanced this year with a number
of activities at area businesses, Burchfield said.
SMPOA, Sweetwater merchants and the
city teamed up on a successful "Made in the USA" promotion in
November and plans are to do so again in July and this November
The promotion showcases all the
American-made products available in Sweetwater.
Burchfield also stresses that SMPOA is
not just about businesses owners but property owners as well and all
those interested in Sweetwater.
At the end of 2012, SMPOA elected
officers for this year and they include: Burchfield as president, Rob
Rule as vice president, Debbie Exum as secretary and Brian Giannasio
