In the last of a three-part series, The Advocate & Democrat takes a look back at the people, stories and events that shaped the year 2012.

As summer turned to fall and 2012 came to and end, the alarming string of murders in Monroe County continued. 

The election in November brought changes on the state and local level, helping to round out a memorable year in Monroe County. 

On a positive note, the world did not end on Dec. 21 as some interpretations of the Mayan Calendar preВ­dicted.
