KINGSTON-Tuesday
night was a good night for the Kingston Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets as both rolled to victories
over visiting Sweetwater. Kingston's girls put together their best performance of the season
in cruising to a 68-40 victory.
The final game of the evening was closer, but the Jackets
still came away with a 50-39 victory. Sydney Nunley posted a huge double-double Tuesday, scoring
18 points and pulling down 18 rebounds in leading Kingston to the 28-point victory. Nunley,
however, didn't start strong as it was Lauren Baggett scoring six points in leading the Lady
Jackets to an 18-9 lead after eight minutes of play. Nunley did have a big second
quarter.
She scored nine points while Harli-Blaine Oran added five and the trio of
Alison Mossing, Taylor Thurman and Baggett scored four each in giving the Lady Jackets a 44-24
lead at halftime. Raven Jefford tried to keep Sweetwater close as she buried two three-pointers and
scored 15 points in the first half.
Sweetwater played better in the third quarter, but
they couldn't make a run at Kingston as the Lady Jackets took the frame 10-9 to make the score
54-33 with eight minutes left to play. Kingston put the finishing touches on their 28-point
victory by outscoring Sweetwater 14-7 in the fourth quarter.
Baggett also scored in double
figures for Kingston as she scored 10 points on the night while Mossing dished out six assists.
Jefford paced Sweetwater with 20 points and eight steals while Mandalyn McNabb added seven points
and four steals.
Sweetwater falls 50-36 It wasn't easy, but the Jackets completed
the sweep with a 14-point victory over the Wldcats. Kingston's Jordan Huddleston got off to a
quick state Tuesday. He scored eight points in leading Kingston to a 13-8 lead after eight
minutes of play.
Nick Wicker and Brandon Clark scored four each for Sweetwater in the
opening frame. The second quarter would be played to a 13-all draw, but that was good enough for
Kingston to take a 26-21 lead at halftime.
Clark led all scorers in the period with eight
points while Huddleston scored five for the Jackets. Kingston scored 13 points again in the third
period, but this time they held Sweetwater to nine, making the score 39-30 with eight minutes to
play.
Brandon Griffis buried a three-pointer and scored five points in the period for
Kingston. Terrell Johnson matched that total for the Wildcats. Kingston's defense held Sweetwater
to six points in the final period and that allowed the Jackets to pull away for the 50-36
victory.
