TELLICO PLAINS-The future of the
revamped charter for the town of Tellico Plains will soon be in the
hands of the General Assembly.
At the city council meeting on
Thursday, Mayor Patrick Hawkins told the board that City Attorney
Charles Ridenour had looked over the final draft of the proposed
charter and made a few minor wording changes. Margaret Norris from
the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) then made those
adjustments.
"Our attorney has looked over the
final draft," said Hawkins. "Everything we addressed in the
workshops and wanted to change is in here."
Alderman Larry Harris, who was unable
to attend the last charter workshop, did have a few additional
suggestions.
Harris was concerned that the draft
stated that it would take four out of five voting members to override
the mayor's vote.
"That's impossible to achieve," Harris told the council. "That's an 80 percent vote." See full story in the Sunday, Dec. 9, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
