A minor school bus accident in
Sweetwater injured four people on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol
Trooper Cory Russell, Shonna Smith, of Sweetwater, was traveling on
Upton Road in her 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix around 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday
when she came down a hill and saw Monroe County School Bus #21 coming
up the grade hill on the wrong side of the road.
"The driver of the bus attempted to
get back on his side of the road when he saw the car, but Mrs. Smith
had no where to go," said Russell. "They hit head on."
The bus, driven by Brent Baker, was
completing its after-school route. Russell said there was 25 students
on the bus at the time of the crash.
Smith and two female students on the
bus were transported to Sweetwater Hospital, where they were treated
for minor injuries and released. One of the students was from the
Sweetwater City School System and the other was from Sweetwater High
School. Another student was taken to a private doctor.
