Only a few days after two people were killed in an RV fire near Tellico Plains, a Sweetwater couple lost everything in fire that claimed their camper on Greenbriar Road Saturday morning.

Monroe County Sheriff's Sgt. James Wall said when he arrived on the scene he found the camper fully engulfed, but discovered that Ray and Patricia Self had managed to make their way out with only minor burn injuries.

As of Tuesday, Ray Self remained in the hospital, however, according to a family friend.

The Selfs told Wall they were using a small electric heater to in the camper and couldn't think of anything else that might have started the fire.

The camper had an estimated value between $1,500-$4,000. Their car, parked nearby, was also hit by the fire, causing damage to the bumper, headlight and mirror.

The Selfs said the fire also destroyed their medicine and medical equipment.

The family is in a bad situation, having lost everything, including their dog, the week of Thanksgiving.

Friend Terri Stringer said she would like to find someone with a camper to donate to the Selfs. If you would like to help, call Stringer at 337-1923.
