MADISONVILLE-After steadfastly standing
against Sunday beer sales inside the Madisonville city limits for
years, the board of mayor and aldermen quietly passed a motion to
allow the sales in its November meeting.
They didn't really have much of a
choice.
"The board had nothing to do with
allowing the sale of beer on Sundays," Alderman Bill Spradlin said. "The voters passed it when they voted in liquor by the drink."
Spradlin was referring to a ballot
question that asked if restaurants in Madisonville should be allowed
to serve liquor by the drink. The initiative passed by a vote of 985
to 915 and one of the offshoots was that the state takes over the
regulation of beer sales, and state regulations allow beer to be sold
on Sundays. See full story in the Sunday, Nov. 18, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
