Here is a listing of area Veterans Day programs and events:
Tellico Plains Elementary School
The Tellico Plains Elementary School
Veterans Day program will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. The
school will serve a "Thanksgiving lunch" beginning at 11 a.m.
Retired teachers are also invited to join the school for lunch
and the program.
Hiwassee College
To honor veterans, Hiwassee College
cafeteria will be hosting a Veterans Day breakfast on Nov. 9 from
7:30 to 9:45 am. This will allow local veterans to come to the
college and reunite, share stories and enjoy a meal. The breakfast
will consist of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, fruit,
cereals, juices, milk, coffee and more. Veterans and their spouses
can attend at a reduced cost of $3.50.
Following the meal, a brief 10 a.m.
service will be held at the Hiwassee College flag poles to honor
veterans. Students, faculty, staff and veterans will congregate to
share in fellowship, reflection, and thanks for all that have served
our country.

Tellico Plains High School
Tellico Plains High School will hold a
Veterans Day program on Nov. 9th at 9 a.m. with breakfast served at 8

Vonore Elementary School
Vonore Elementary School will host a
Veterans Day Turkey Lunch on Nov. 8 from 10:45 a.m. to noon. Veterans
eat free. All other guest are $3 per person. The school would also
like to invite veterans to adopt a class to visit and speak with. If
you are interested in speaking to a class, please contact the school
at 423-884-6392.
Vonore Middle School
Vonore Middle will celebrate Veterans
Day on Friday, Nov. 9. All veterans and their spouses are invited to
join the school for complimentary lunch at noon., followed by a
Veterans Day Program in the gym at 1 p.m.
Coker Creek Elementary School
Coker Creek Elementary School will hold
their Veterans Day Program on Friday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. The school
will also serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before the
program. Lunch is free to all veterans.
Rural Vale Elementary School
Rural Vale Elementary School will hold
their Veterans Day Program on Friday, Nov. 9, at 1:15 p.m. The school
will also serve a complimentary lunch for veterans from 11 a.m.-12:30
p.m.
Brown Intermediate School
Brown Intermediate School will have
their Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at the
Optimist field, weather permitting.
Veterans Parade
The annual Sweetwater Veterans Parade
will line up at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at UGO Shopping Center,
Hwy. 68. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and travel to the gazebo in
downtown. Rep. Jimmy Matlock will be grand marshal and guest speaker.
Refreshments will be shared at the VFW Post Open House. For info,

Monroe County Veterans Day Observance
will be 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 9 on the Courthouse steps.
