DEKALB COUNTY-The Sequoyah Chiefs had their chances Friday night to do what many people said they couldn't. Time after time the Chiefs got within reach of the lead but could not overtake the Tigers. This game was much closer, however, than the final score of 39-21.

The Tigers struck first with a touchdown run by Will Molander in the first quarter. After a Luke Knott onside kick recovery the Chiefs put some points on the board themselves as Brett King found Austin Lunsford for a 30-yard strike in the corner of the endzone. Extra point was missed, 7-6 the score.

Blake Huffman ran the ball well during the first half, literally dragging tiger defenders as the game went on. The time ran off the clock by the running game didn't bother DeKalb. Lucas Phillips hit Sonni Fullilove with a post route for a score that made the game 13-6 in the second. After a Phillips scamper the game was 19-6 at the half. Sequoyah wouldn't give up though.

The offense found some rythym in the second half. Garret Dalton, Reuben Abernathy, and Lunsford all made huge plays in the passing game. After another Phillips score that made the game 25-6, King and Abernathy hooked up for a 35-yard strike of their own making the score 25-13. 

On the insuing possession the Tigers threw an interception to Lunsford at the Chief 25-yard line. Sequoyah had some hope as the third quarter was winding down, but just three plays later King would throw an interception of his own. Devonta Milan scored after the turnover and made the game 32-13. 

After another Chief punt Chris Chapman added another rushing score making the game 39-13. Matt Gletty had some big catches and brought one down for 32 on the last drive of the game. Dalton would cap off the scoring mark for the Chiefs late in the fourth as he hauled in a 30-yard pass from King. After the Logan McDonald extra point, and King's third touchdown pass the final was set at 39-21.

Defensively, the Chiefs had contributions from all over the place. Brian Tilley and Huffman made plays over the middle, as did Caleb Minor who once again, seemed to always be around the ball. Lunsford and Dalton played well at the corner spots in this pass happy offense.

Dustin Webb, Thomas Spradlin and Xavier Satterfield made tackles as the line of scrimmage. Drew Carson had a big sack of Phillips late in the third quarter that really ignited the Sequoyah fan base that traveled to the game. 

The was a tough game for the Chiefs as it was one of the tougher 4/5 matchups in the 4A playoffs. That being said, Sequoyah should be proud of how they performed this season. The senior class of Huffman, Lunsford, Casey Coon, Tyler Davidson, Tilley, and Jarred Johnson have led the Chiefs to three straight playoff appearances. No senior class has ever done that.
