TELLICO PLAINS-The town of Tellico
Plains revisited a downtown speeding issue during the monthly meeting
of the board on Thursday.
At the October meeting, the board voted
to decrease the speed limit throughout Scott Street in the downtown
area of Tellico Plains from 25 mph to 15 mph. After a month of
observation, some members of the board felt it was unnecessary for
the speed limit to be decreased the length of the entire road.
"I feel like extending it all the way
through the city limits is a little extreme," said Mayor Patrick
Hawkins.
Hawkins said the streets in downtown
will be striped next week and he has requested there also be two
crosswalks painted: one crossing from Tellico Grains to the Cotton
Pickin' Inn, and another from the Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters.
"Putting two crosswalks in may draw
more attention to that area," said Hawkins.
