MADISONVILLE-Two issues seem to keep
following the County Commission around and they reared there heads
again at Tuesday's October meeting.
Monroe County resident Fred McNabb and
June Griffin, a Rhea County resident who said she has addressed 91
county commissions in Tennessee on the topic, spoke out in favor of
posting the Ten Commandments.
County Mayor Tim Yates announced
earlier this year, he wanted to post them in the Courthouse as part
of an historical display, but delayed the posting when the threat of
lawsuits arose.
Yates has said he would still like to
put up the Commandments, but that move could require permission from
the County Commission, which might not want to open the county up to
lawsuits.
Griffin said Monroe County citizens,
not fear of litigation, should take priority.
"This is what the people want," she
said. See full story in the Sunday, Oct. 28, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
