MADISONVILLE-After languishing for five
years, is there light at the end of the tunnel for the proposed Food
City store in Vonore?
Monroe County Economic Development
Director Shan Harris and County Attorney Jerome Melson gave an update
on the project during Tuesday's County Commission meeting.
They said after delays due to the
economy's slowdown and efforts to get a second entrance on Highway
411, Food City is ready to move forward if the county and Vonore will
give them some financial help on the unexpected $125,000 cost of
putting in a red light at the second entrance.
"They want to start this fall and
complete sometime in the spring," Harris said of the store.
Food City has asked that the county and
Vonore help them with the cost of the red light through a property
tax abatement or some other means. See full story in the Sunday, Oct. 28, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
