A Monroe County inmate who took off
from a work detail on Oct. 16 turned up Tuesday evening in McMinn
County.
Monroe County Sheriff's Detective
Jennifer Bledsoe said authorities had received word Ricky Gennoe was
in McMinn County and searched for him with help from McMinn County
and Niota officers.
He wasn't found at the time, but
turned himself in later to the Sheriff's Office. Bledsoe said
Gennoe told them he had watched as they hunted for him, but stayed
hidden.
Gennoe disappeared from a work detail
at Hiwassee College by stealing a truck. He was serving time on
burglary charges and now faces additional charges of escape and theft
of a vehicle over $1,000.
Bledsoe said Gennoe isn't saying much
about where he was during the week he was gone or where the truck,
which belongs to Hiwassee College, ended up.
"He doesn't want to be a rat," Bledsoe said. "But we think the truck will turn up eventually."
