A Madisonville man was arrested Tuesday
evening after he allegedly drove his car into an apartment building.
Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Wes
Martin said it was around 5:45 p.m. when he went to Community Drive
on a report of an explosion and found a 1993 Ford had been driven
through the building.
Martin said the car was registered to a
Megan Kirkland, but Christopher Kirkland was the one who had been
driving it at the time of the incident.
After making sure everyone was safe,
Martin said Kirkland told him three different stories about what had
happened, but witnesses said Kirkland had been driving in reverse
when he hit the building.
Kirkland finally admitted this, but
said his throttle had "hung up." Martin said Kirkland couldn't
provide any insurance and didn't have a driver's license. Martin
said he was also unsteady on his feet, couldn't stand still, had
slurred speech and his pupils appeared abnormal with droopy eyelids.
Martin said Kirkland failed several
field sobriety tests and refused to take a blood alcohol test. Martin
said Megan Kirkland was in the apartment building at the time it was
hit, but gave no indication of the two are married or related in some
Kirkland, 20, is charged with filing a
false report, reckless endangerment, failure to exercise due care,
driving without a license, underage driving while impaired, financial
responsibility violation (no insurance) and implied consent
