Leading by example: Vanderwerf has all the tools

DJ Vanderwerf is just a normal 15-year-old kid with one prosthetic leg. DJ was born with a birth defect and had to amputate part of his left leg when he was only nine months old.

He has played football for five years and has plans to keep playing. Vanderwerf certainly has big football dreams. As a freshman quarterback, Vanderwerf is already the starter for the Sweetwater Wildcats JV team. He wears number 14, but his role model and source of inspiration wears number 15.

"Football has always been one of my favorite sports. I wanted to play because around the same time I started playing, my favorite player and hero Tim Tebow was the starting quarterback at the University of Florida," said Vanderwerf.
