SWEETWATER-Friday night was a big evening for current and former Sweetwater High School soccer, track, cross country and golf players, coaches, supporters and fans.

As part of SHS's Centennial Celebration, the school paid tribute to the great history of these teams mixed in with a girl's soccer match with Walker Valley.

The event could not have gone better, as the Lady Wildcats beat Walker Valley, 1-0 when the Mustangs accidentally kicked the ball in the goal for Sweetwater.

But Sweetwater earned its victory with great defense and team effort on a warm fall evening.

During halftime of the soccer match, former players from all the above sports were recognized.

Several very special presentations and honors were handed out as well.

The Mark Houston family was honored for its great contributions to area soccer growth.

Assistant SHS Principal Mark Rhodes presented Jennifer Houston and her son, Ross, who was an outstanding player for the Wildcats in much more recent history, with a plaque. Ross Houston currently attends the University of Alabama.

The biggest tribute of the evening came when the school honored the Mike Ridley family by naming the soccer field after him. Ridley and his family have played a part in about everything that has anything to do with the sport of soccer in Sweetwater.

The current Lady Wildcats team then presented one of their most loyal fans, Tommy Lemmonds, with a special shirt in honor of his support.

On Friday Oct. 12, the Wildcats storied football history complete with three state championships will be honored during festivities before and during the Wildcats' home game with McMinn Central.
