With 6-1 in reach, Chiefs welcome Highlanders

The Sequoyah Chiefs have a chance to become 6-1 for the first time since their historic 1999 campaign. The Scott County Highlanders stand in the way of that feat, but this isn't the 2011 team. No, that team handed a crushing overtime loss to Sequoyah 14-7. Things will undoubtedly be different in 2012.

A home advantage couldn't hurt the Chief's chances, though more people would have to show up for that to be a factor. The big difference that will make the outcome change is the versatility of the Chiefs.

Last year as the Chiefs were preparing for the second half of the season and a potential playoff run, the team was a little shallow on the depth chart. After the emergences of players like Alex Stakely, Luke Knott, and Ben Hall to name a few, the Chiefs have more players playing big time roles.

With Sequoyah's dominant passing game and potent running attack they have more than enough on offense to win. Garret Dalton alone racked up 216 yards of total offense just last week. The defense can now score as the Chiefs have scored three defensive touchdowns and even had two on special teams in the game against Meigs.

Scott County is going to have their hands full on Friday. Look for another big Sequoyah win. In all of the Chiefs' five victories, scoring 40 seems to be the common factor. When Bill Satterfield's team does that they are 5-0. When the Chiefs score below 40, which they did against Lenoir City, they lose. Momentum will be big, winding down the season.

With tough road games against Loudon and Polk County looming, the Chiefs need a big win at home. The game will be broadcast on 1250 WRKQ and online at WRKQ.NET at 7:15 p.m. The Sequoyah Chiefs have now moved into the number two spot in the East Tennessee Sports Writers Poll in 4A, just behind 5-1 Fulton High School.
