MADISONVILLE-How responsible is a
business owner for what his or her patrons do? Does it matter if it
happens on premise or off? Should the consumption of alcohol provided
by the owner be the deciding factor?
Whatever the reasoning, the Monroe
County Beer Board decided last week to revoke the beer license of
Hidden Lake Campground, located outside of Tellico Plains. The
business has been the site of many complaint calls to 911, several
fights, drug overdoses and even one killing.
In a near courtroom setting, Monroe
County Sheriff Bill Bivens said there had been noise complaints from
the opening of the place in 2008.
"We've had calls of fights,
gunshots, DUI, drug use and in July 2009, Vince Cole was killed
there," Bivens said. "We've had a total of 47 calls since they
opened, which is a large number." See full story in the Sunday, Sept. 30, edition of The Advocate & Democrat.
