An influential member of the education
community in Monroe County has been awarded a national service award
for his involvement.
Monroe County Federal Programs Director
Dan Schlafer was recently presented the National School Board
Association's (NSBA) Distinguished Service Award, given to school
board members who are highly involved at the national level. This is
the third time Schlafer has received this honor, having also been
recognized in 2005 and 2009.
"I'm humbled that the National School
Board Association has sent this honor my way," said Schlafer.
In addition to his work in Monroe
County, Schlafer is also a member of the Cumberland County Board of
Education, where he has served as both chairman and vice-chairman.
The Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) nominated Schlafer for the award, which was presented at their
Upper Cupperland Fall District Meeting at Cannon County High School
on Sept. 6.
