MADISONVILLE-Change is coming for
the Monroe County Board of Education. At Thursday night's
meeting, Dr. Larry Stein stepped down from the position of Monroe County School Board chairman.
"Thank you very much for allowing me to serve four years," said
Stein, who will remain a 1st District School Board member. "But, I am officially withdrawing my
name from the running list." In a surprise move, Stein nominated
3rd District Sonya Lynn as chairwoman and Bob Lovingood as vice-chairman. But, Lynn declined the
nomination, noting she "didn't have time" to fulfill the role. "You've sat on this board for four years complaining about how I did it, but you aren't
willing to serve?" questioned Stein, before quickly moving on. Newly-elected 3rd District School Board member Steve Rogers then nominated Lovingood for
chairman and Dewitt Upton was nominated as vice-chairman. As
per usual, the chairman is voted on after each election. The vote passed unanimously, with
Lovingood slated to take the rein as chairman at the October board meeting. See full story in the Sunday, Sept. 16, edition
